ROAD TRANSPORT
PRINCIPLE OF REGULATION.
NOT FAVOURED BY FARMERS.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 24. The. road transport of goods is likely to be subjected by the Government to the same cdntrol as that at present exercised over road passengers transport, according to Mr W. W. • Mulholland, who, at the meeting of the, North Canterbury branch of the Farmers’ Union, ; launched an attack against the principle of the regula-' lions for this purpose. ‘ yv.v- ---‘ Mr Mulholland ;«aid he understood that regulations had already been pre-i pared. ”
The following resolution was carried:—“That the North Canterbury Branch of the Farmers’ Union protestsstrongly against any hampering, by regulations, of _ the natural development of road transport,, and that it objects most emphatically to the imposition of any regulations preventing / free competition in, dbjjie road transport of goods.” . •
A copy of this resolution is to bo forwarded to the , Dopiiftion Executive r of the Union, and tn the Minister for k ■ Transport. ‘ • As the result of.,an inquiry by the ? ' Finance Committee of the Union, it‘' : was decided tiiat a report concerning the railway freights .on.farm produce ' - should be prepared, and submitted to tne Dominion Executive with a view T to a delegation meeting the Hailway VBoard. - ' • .
