OHRISTOHCftCsJ Augußt 23. . 1 In the Supreme Court to-day, before Chief J ustice Myers,- Alfred ’ William Per row-stood his trial on-a charge of having on June 17th., 1932, at Ashburton, negligently di’ivfeii a motor car, , thereby causing the death of Francis John Samuel Major. . . . Perrow entered a plea of not guilty. For the prosecution it was alleged that Major was employed on the night of June 17th. driving a truck laden 1 with furniture* with a companion named Boag. They stopped the truck to make adjustments jto the! gear box, and while thla truck, was standing at the side 'of the! road, Perrow’ B car passed, striking Major antd inflicting ' fatal injuries. Perrow did; not stop hie ear, nor did. he come back to enquire whether anyonp was hurt. Perrow’s car was identified at Christchurch by a piece of. flesh adhering to" ihe mudguard, and a (Pathologist declared the flesh to be human. Perrow had taken a girl with him to Aahburton, and' returned to ChHstchurqh with her. They had hooked in 'a hotel, ns Mr and Mr» Murray,.—- '-.-Ld ;/ perrow was found guilty, and remanded until Thursday for sentence. After the jury had given their ver. diet, his Honour said that the prisoner did not .even possess a good character, he having been previously sentenced on a number of charges of false pretenoes.
