MINES TO CLOSE
DISPUTE IN SOUTHLAND.
(Per Press Association—Copyright.)
INVERCARGILL, 'August 23.
At a meeting of the miners nt Nightcaps it was decided by an overwhelming majority to reject the owners’ proposals, work to cease immediately.' The Black Lion mine, now owned by Mr McSkimming, of Ben Har, will continue to work, as an agreement made by the owner and the miners there is considered satisfactory. ■The various mines affected are Linton, Wairawi, Mossbank, yßirchwood and Blacii Diamond. . !
To-day no further intimation had. been received from the Union, and it was learned in Invercargill that no work was being done at any of the mines except the Black Lion. It is understood that there is no immediate danger of a. shortage of supplies, as fairly good stocks are on hand at most of the yards.
