THREE CHINESE APPREHENDED.
Australian Press Association.)
(Received this day at 9.25 a.m; SYDNEY, August 16,
With the arrest of a Chinese in a city bank ./to-day, detectives believe that they will be able to elucidate a mystery attaching to the organised circulation of spurious coins, mostly shillings. The detectives are convinced that >tho coins are not minted here, or in New Zealand.
Two other well-dressed Chinese were later arrested in the Chines© quarter. .
Detectives engaged in investigations are convinced that the bogus coins have been coming from Hongkong for years. They 'are such excellent replica® of the genuine article that even bankers have found it difficult to find fault with them. '
Y‘Recent assays disclosed in the shilling :a three per cent, deficit in the silver ; The counterfeits were usually mixed ,with;.the genuine when deposited at banka.
