BIG ARMY CONTRACT
,: \ , MEAT SUPPLY SECURED ,BY 'AUSTRALIA. (United Press Association—By Electric v . Telegraph—Copyright.) / . - OTTAWA, August ,12: Australia has secured" , the British Army frozen meat contract, amounting to , nearly ope thousand head of cattle a week, for.'.ei-x months from next September to March, at prices considerably above the. present levels. This •will have an important uplift in the Australian meat trade.
Anglins and Company’s share of J he contract amounts to from 400 to f-liO head of cattle a week. Mr Angiiss received this cabled news from London this afternoon. He believes that Boithwick’s other companies are also sharing in the cpntract. Mr Anglins was gratified, as he. understands that the new contract went to Australia on a purely competitive and not sentimental basis, 1 the Argentine tenders being higher., The contract will help to liquidate the accumulated stocks of frozen beef and mutton in London and, in Australia, and on the water, The prices are such as to ensure a profitable business in the early stages of delivery and represent the first ray of sunshine for months; The arrangement is to supply also some 1000 carcases of sheep, the British Government having the right to decide to take mutton instead of beef, if mutton is lower. The first deliveries,, commencing in September can probably be niade store in London. ’ ’ ■ ;
