SECRET BALLOT TQ BE HELD

GREYMOUTH, August 15
Following on the rejection of the coal owners’ terms, as submitted nv the recent conference between them and the union representatives at Westport, a deputation representing the Wei'D Coast Miners’ Unions and Council met the representatives of the 1 employers at Wellington on Aug., 11th in an endeavour to obtain an ,improvement in the terms proposed for a new agreement. The conference was presided over by Air Fla veil, of the Westport Coal Coy., -who at tiie outset remarked that the coal owners could not agree to any change in their proposals. AfteJ a brief discu sion, therefore, the conference closed. The miners’ deleft tc| have returned to their respective dir. triotF. where they gave their unions, a report on the situation. The West Const Miners’ Council has arranged for the holding of a. secret, ballot, duri.ig the present week in order to decide whether the agreement as proposed shall be accepted. The old agreement, under which the miners are now working, will expire an Friday next, August 19tli.
