In the' town proper, the 1 Council hast had several useful'worfoj of a permanent charactu' performed*!, while street extensions and improy'i merits of reserves have not been overlooked. The appearance of the stnu'-ts generally bear testimony to the good work done, and residents in the-j back portion of the town must be j {rateful for what has been, carried ou'rt. The. opening up and drainage of the back portion of the town 13 a very desirable undertaking, and as the residential area tends to develop in that locality, the work now being done as proving very useful. Thier© are 1 also ; very useful, improvement works being, carried ' out in and about the hospital grounds. The labour is being u'encl" to good advantage in that area,; and the land should now produce a', larger return for the benefit of the funds. The Borough Council has carried out a very intelligent policy in this matter, and the general advantage to the ratepayers as a whole should be fully appreciated.
