Wdlattended meetings at Alexander yesterday and Oromwell to-dayy,.Unaii-mously pas-ed the ,following-resolution: “That : this meeting of. business people of Alexander and Cromwell he-, lieves that the placing; of weirs at the outlets of Lakes Wanaka , ami Hawea would, by uncovering an untold amount of gold in the bed of the Clutha river in the-Clyde l , Cromwell, Alexandra, and Coal Crfeek gorg s, immediately solve the question of unemployment in Otago; that it Would assiste materially in bringing kick tp. normal the depleted finances of the country, and that a amount of valuable land at, present useless lying between Cromwell and Hawea'could he brought under a (system of irrigation.
