The Communists anti-war “demonstration” resolved itself into small battles with the police throughout the city. A party of seven, led by a redhaired woman, attempted to make a raid on the Japanese Consulate, and the police had to use their batons to dispense the gathering crowd. Four were arrested, and many arrests were also made in other localities, on charges of riotous behaviour and assaulting the police. \ At the Communist gathering there were; altogether 32 arrests made, alter many exciting and violent scenes, in which tlic police, who were splendidly organised always triumphed.
