The New Zealand hockey team’s first fixture in Sydney was a match against the Metropolitan reps, at'• Rushcutter’s Bay to-day. The game was played in beautiful Weather,' and it ended in a draw] 4 7 Wi. " . The visitors’ displayed brilliant combination, enabling Turbitt and Reid to. score. Then the Metropolitan side took a hand, and they attacked, but an excellent defence held t-heiri at bdy until nearly half-time, when they scored twice rapidly. At the interval the scores were N.Z. 2, Sydney 2. The Metropolitan forwards showed ■ better stick work after the interval, but again they found the New Zealanders’ defence solid. Then both sides scoifed a goal, "the New Zealanders’ goal being a penalty. • Wellbourne put his side in front with a scorching shot from, the edge of the circle. Not long afterwards, Hogg, for the locals, equalled. Outstanding New Zealanders were Munro, Joblin, Turbitt and Wellbourne. BIG WIN AT TENTERFIELD. SYDNEY, August 1. . , The New Zealand hockey team defeated Tenterfield on Saturday by 14 goals to one. The visitors were too;, good for their opponents. Turbitt arid . The local Mayor, Alderman Petherick, said it was a compliment fori a team from the sister Dominion to visit Tenterfield. , The manager, Mr Holland, suitably relied, saying the team was receiving the utmost hospitality.
