FfHJIT KNOCKED OFF SHELVES. ARGUMENT WITH OHINESE. WELLINGTON, July 28. Put out of a Chinese shop after an argument in which he struck the proprietor on the. face, William Hawthorne, timber salesman, aged 52, refused to go away, and was arrested by Senior-Sergeant Caiweli. On the way to the Mount Cook police station he caught hold of a fence and refused to walk. A constable went to the Seniorsergeant’s assistance, and between them they got him to the station. Details of the disturbance were 'given in the Police' Court yesterday, when Hawthorne was charged with behaving in a disorderly manner while drunk, and resisting the senior-sergeant in the execution of his duty. In his outline of the case SeniorSergeant Scott said that at about 7.10 p.m. on Monday accused went into a Chinese shop and asked for some fruit. When the proprietor refused to give him any he commenced' knocking fruit off the shelves. The Chinese came from behind the counter and commenced to pick up tLe fruit, but accused struck him on the face.
