Brocklehurst and R. M. King formed a working bee to celebrate Arbor , Day, and a good number of trees T were planted, , many of these being kindly donated by Mr fiji Dove/, of Arahura Bored. "Bazaar. A ’ meeting .of Indies was held at the Town Hall yester- ' -~f clay to organise a committee . for the ! Oriental and Occidental Bazaar. Mr D. J. Evans was in the chair. The lollowing stall holders, were appointed:—No 1 Misses Wilson and. Heron; No 2—Mrs j., White and -Misses White; No 3—-Mesdames- Roberts and Evans; No 4-—Mrs Breeze and Misses Breeze. Additional helpers appointed were ,'Mesdame.s... H. Smith, Hyams, Fowler and Bennett; and Misses‘Smith and. Hyams. Valedictory.—The Woodstock, church was crowded last evening when a farewell social was tendered the Rev. jr-" Douglas and the. Misses Douglas who | are leaving for Wellington. .The, chair was occupied by Mr T. Potts, and- on behalf of the congregation Misses J, Gumming- and M. Potts presented Mi* Douglas with a purSe of | sovereigns, and nn address., Other eulogistic re* marks were addressed, by Messrs Gumming, Naylor. - Parlaiie i .McKencie, Potts, McKay. McXaughton, and; Dr Andrews. During the evening ; items were given by Misses Potts- (2), and Mesdames Hyndman, Berry,and YYells. Mining.—ln the annual report of '■ the Consolidated, Company- the following reference to the Humphrey’s Gully claim appears:—“This property in 1906 was again let on contract, but- i the tributers failed to “make a. go”, of it, and in October the compqny:hnd to take the property, oyer again/ lack „ of. capital being the eh ief factor. Ross Flat.—Mr Seddon waited on the Minister of Customs, ‘-r Hon'.: M»• Miller, regarding the proposed duty on electrical machinery and appliances, pointing out that, in view of the prospective importations of electrihkl /'machinery to work the Rbss Flat?; a most impprtant project would be seriously : hamp/ered. Messrs Byrne ■< and Bruce strongly supported the sentations made, and urged the Minister to review the position. The Minister promised to consider the' representations. v: •. / \
Wallganui Baity Factory.—Word from the south to-day Indicate* that tho prospect* for the Wangtnui dairy factory are most promising. The full share list has been subscribed and the 1000 shares allotted. It is anticipated that the factory will be ready to start at the commencement of the 1908 season, with supplies from fully 500 cows.
