RICH GOLD FIND
DISCOVERY AT SHOTOVER. ■ (Per Press Association — Copyright.) DUNEDIN, July 26. A Dunedin man who has just returned from the Shotover River, states that there are six members in the syndicate which has struck rich gold on the Shotover. The lender 's .Mr Ned Oxenbridge, who, with liis son and other members of his family/has worked the Shotover claim ior ten years. The claim is eight miles from Queenstown, in very rcuglr, country. The estimate of 5000 ounces is based on a return of 20 ounces weekly which the paddock has yielded during the part four weeks. The successful lengtliy mining of the claim depejids on the vagaries of the river, which is noted for its sudden rises. At present tire syndicate's wing dams are two feet above tlie water level, but a rank! thaw in tho back country would cause the suspension of operations. Tim visitor states that th-re is no surface gold there for t-he amateur' miner. Some year:- ago the sann I syndicate obtain.d £25,000 less than | a mile below the present cl. im, and most of this was expended in machinery and gear.
