COMPETITION IN WESTLAND. MAWHER A MAINTAINS THE LEAD. The Westland ladies’ hockey competitions were continued yesterday ■ with the following results: Rovef A. 11, Kokatahi 0. Mawhera 7, Rove# B O. Mawhera 7 ‘ Hokitika 1 5 1 31 3 10 Rover A. 3 3 20 9 6 Kokatahi 1 6 11 38 2 Rover B. -.\ 6 5 50 0 ROVER A V. KOKATAHI. This match resulted in a good win for Rovers by 11 goals to nil. The Rover forwards were hitting the ball about in fine style, 'the ball travelling from wing to wing. The combination shown was Very pleasing and had the Kokatahi backs bewildered. Kokatahi players did not keep their places, and were inclined to speculate far too much. L. Monk played well when she got the ball but. was not supported by her forwards. -D- Marshall!' end H. Kelly :played useful games. 1 Mrs . Rutland .led the,forwards in fine style and was well supported by H. Ridland and R. Ward, while the other two D. -Stopforth. and M. Ward did their share also. They were well supported by their halves but the backs had very little work to do. iSco.ers were D. Stopforth (3), H. Ridland (3), Mrs Butland (3), R. Ward (1), O. .Stapleton (1). R. Paterson and F. Stapleton were capable referees.

TEAM WINS AGAIN. HARD GAME AT TOOWOOMBA, Australian Press Association.) e> ' TOOWOOMBA,' July 27. The ’touring New Zealand hockey team’ to-day defeated Toowoomba by four goals to nil, after a vigorous game. The-' teams were : New Zealand: Moore, Andrews, Clark, Joblin (Capt.), Bollard, Rogers, Best, B(ay, Turbitt, Wellbourne. Toowoomba: Emrnerson; Andrews I: Perry, Vagg, Mclntyre, Catfield, J. Perfy, Adamson, Curran, Caldwell, Reithmuller. New Zealand won the toss and began attacking vigorously ’till Toowoomba cleared, lack of - support, howeverspoiling their ijtrahce. Again attacking New* Zealand forced a penalty corner but ' Aiev failed "to score. Clark was showing great stick work in the face of much opposition. New Zealand’s brilliant play Overcame a Toowoomba counter attack, enabling the visiting forwards to assault the goal' vigorously. Bay scoring. A ding-dong battle continued till ll’jf time. New Zealand on resuming, w lie ain to the fore, till a clearance by Pefry took Toov'oomba.jto the New Zealand circle. Lack of cohesion then prevented a score. Again New Zealand attacked, and despite Emmefson’s wonderful de-. fence. Bay again broke through and scored. Continuing the offensive, New Zealand pressed round the goal, Wellbourne scoring. ; Toowoomba next carried the ball to the New Zealand cirde, two shots at goal miscarrying. Wellboume cleared frying Toowoomba back to their own goal circle. However j Emrnerson was too good on the defence; till Rogers sorred cleverly one - minute before time. Andrews, Clark, Bay and Wetl,bourne ’ were tbe outstanding players for the winners.
