Veterans of the Bonus Army were (ordered to begin the levacuation of several billets, immediately,, but they, -still occupied- their- quarters .a£ter ; their commanders had urged them to make pa-ssive resistance to the police. The Police Department in the mean--time made a move to enforce theorder, which directed the evacuation -to be completed by 'midnight to-night.
The District Commis'sioner has issued 'orders to Police -Superintendent Glassford ,that all .bonu s -seeking veterans, now- in the city, must vacate their camps by . August 4.
