Hurley, C. SThompson, W. Johnson, J. W. Preen, R. Wild, and S. Smith. Appointments confirmed included: Bell Bill, 0. L. .Evans (sole teacher) ; Hatters, Mks C. A. V. Ellmers (bead teacher); Kaiata, Mr K. McNaughton (sole teacher); Otira, Mrs M. Fitzgibbon (sole teacher); Te Kinga, Mr H. A. Taylor (sole teacher) ; Waiho, Miss JK. Hounr-elil (sole teacher). T-

Resignations accepted included: Cobden, Miss iE. G. Dwyer ; Hokitika, Miss A. -D. Reid.

The proposal by the senior inspector, to hold a second series of refresher ■ courses for teachers in phyf ical exercises was approved. The Deparment advised that it was prepared to give general approval, .subject to the approval of the Board and senior inspector, to any teachers whose positions might be affected by new conditions and who derire to apply fur other positions without having served their two Decembers in their present sctiools. ; , It was resolved on the motion of' Mr Wild that a circular letter be sent to teachers of country schools defining 1 /what is expected of them in regard to supervision of children during vacation and lunch hour. It is not 1 , expected that headmasters or mistresses residing in the school grounds should cal! oil assistant teachers to lofe theii’ usurtl hour for 1 this purpose; i A letter was received from the Department 1 advising that a grant had been approved for the rehabilitation of t. ; e Wainihinihi school which was damaged by fire on Friday, 27th May. FOREMAN’S REPORT. Kaihinu .School: At this the authorised repairs have been comp eted. When theie otit-offices were being moved I found it nectary (owing to (dry rot) to renew .some of th e timber. Humphreys Teacher’s Residence: During the month'ttie authorised repairs' and renovations hav e been completed. Ross School: The heating of this , school has been attended to by the installation of a slow combustion stove. 'The committee expressed their .appreciation of this class of -heater. Kufnara' 'School: At this school the , boys’ out-offices are in a very bad state ; a concrete slab and channel is required ,and the drain needs leaning f put. .Same minor repairs are required to t.h? studs, corner .stops, barges, caps and weatherboards. The iron rod connecting' the window: openers is tod light and •bends when pressure is applied'; this needs replacing with a heavier rod. Okfifito School: On the 16th-June a fire broke but at this school, caused by . the flooring -boards" catching ‘ fire. -Tlie brickwork of- the firepfece ' had been built' on top of th e flooring and pparent ly the fire had penetrated through the joints\of‘ brickwork with the' atiove result.

' Kumar-a Junction School; The authorised repairs at this school hav e be 11 completed and the pairitirig is notv in progress. Otina -School: At this school a blocked drain requires opening up and cleaning out.

Kumara Teacher’s Residence : There is -a considerable amount of renovations arid repairs required at this residence, and a new headmaster having been appointed, is pressing for this work to tie put in hand. -He also asks that a hot water service be provided. ■ Dobson School : During th e m'ohih ori 6 cupboard ilock has been supplied and fitted at this school. Lower Koiterarigi 'School: The authorised painting -at thi-s school has been completed and the hoys’ urinal pan installed.
