COAL CONFERENCE
AGREEMENT REACHED M f Per Press Association — Copyrightp ; WESTPORT, July 21.; After sitting both this morning aha this aftternOon and also this evening considering * a new agreement fo t - tlie working of,.the coal companies’ mines on the West Coast, the delegates haver at least .temporarily concluded 'tlieff? labours. -' Terms for an agreement were reached:' this evening, and these will be submitted by tlie miners’ degelates to therespective unions. , In view of the present parlous cornli--tions of the coal trade, it is understood some modifications of the existing agreements have been imperative. Before the closing of the conference, the chairman, Mr Flavell, expressed appreciation of the fair-minded spirit, which had prevailed. It is hoped that, as a result of the conference, a settlement will be effected ; but, in view of the uncertain conditions prevailing, it is undersood that, in any ease, the agreement would be for a much shorter period than formerly. .
