LONDON, July 18,

A curious discovery of a keg of butter that had been long buried in a bog in Skye was reported recently to the Society of Antiquaries. The butter, which the- scientific discoverer said tasted like a islightly-sweetened candle, ha apphrently been buried in this bog centuries ago. / i

This, it is said, was an old practice, in accordance with which the country people of the Highlands went to the upland duelings in spring, and buried their butter, whether to preserve- it better, or with the idea of improving the flavour not being known to-day.

The keg discovered was found six feet below the surface and had been hewn out of the trunk of a tree, the total weight being about 109 pounds The butter had hardened in course o. time and had something of the consistency of French chalk. :.4
