CHRISTCHURCH, July 19

The Arbitration Court heard a claim for compensation- “under the Act by Elizabeth Coiitts, a widow 'of Christchurch, arising out of an accident in which John Coutts, a public works employee, received fatal injuries as the result of a landslip near Westport .on- April 3rd-, that swept over a camp owned by the Department. The Department denied .liability. The Court held that there was nothing to prevent Coutts from living in his own camp. When a man had a right, not a duty, to live in an .employer’s hut, the employer was not liable. Judgment was given for the Crown.,
