SYDNEY SENSATION
CATHOLIC HEAD DECLINES AN INVITATION. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at U.K.'S a.m) SYDNEY, July 15. A sensation has been caused by the announcement that the Roman -Catho-1 c Coadjutor, Arch hi -.hop of Sydney, the most Reverend Michael Sheehan, has declined the invitation of the Trustees to attend the ceremony of laying the foundation of the Anzae Memorial building in Hyde Park next Tuesday; firstly, on the ground that obviously it was intended only for Protestants; secondly/- because of a group of statuary entitled “crucifixion of civilisation,” wh’ch forms part of the memorial is gravely offensive to Christian decency. A hurried meeting of the Trustees has been convened and hopes are entertained that the objections will be overcome.
