' In consequence oJ the taxes, live hundred peop! e went to the Palace to request the Maharaja of Udaipur to r s-ind the order. Failing to obtain ■any satisfaction, the mobs attacked the palace. The troops and the po!:c e then fired on "them, killing ten and .seriously injuring eighty. Many others, while endeavouring to escr.pc, rushed into the palac 6 lake, and were drowned, The .-total number of fatalities is at present unknown. The incident cause! a tense feeling in the city. The inhabitants have totally suspended business as a protest against the firing.
