Escapees Recaptured.—The prisoners Delaney and Gibbons who escaped from the local gaol last week were brought back to Hokitika by Detective Campbell and Constable Burrell yesterday morning, having been arested in a hut at Lake Coleridge. Catholic Club.—There was a large attendance aj, the Catholic 'Club’s entertainment last ( evening when, items were given by the following:— Misses Hyame, Lewis, Naneekivell, Burke, Kelly, O, Breeze,, Mrs.H. R. Robinson, and Messrs M. Lampe, J. Myers, C. , Biorklebnnk,' C. Ross, McSherry and Malfrpy. A playette entitled "Id on parks Frnncals” was presented, the players being Misses M, Hempsop, V, Polph. K. Breeze, J. Harvey, apd Messrs Lampe, T. J, Green, and M. Daly, During the evening Father Aubry thanked those present for their patronage. Golf.—The game for the semi-fin;.!) of the Hokitika Golf Qlub’s mixed foursomes on Saturday resulted as follows:—Mr Wake and Mrs A. MacfaHane beat Mr Wilson and Mrs J. C. Macfarlane; Mr Morton and Miss A. Malfroy beat- Mr Mackay and Mrs Teichelmann.

Mining League.—Messrs T. V. Byrne (Country Chairman), H. L. Michel , (Mayor of Hokitika), J. A. Murdoch (Mayor of Kumara), J. Grimmond, and J: Park together. with 1 the Hon. J. Holmes, and Mr T. E, Y. iSoddon have' been appointed a de- ’ putation to -\vait on > the Minister of Mines and the Premier to urge on them the necessity of arriving at a speedy decision regarding the proposed scheme of re-opening the Ross Flats.

Timber.—The Westland School. Commissioners yesterday decided that the royalty on timber' 'taken from' its area at Stillwater, be fixed at 3d per 100 feet, 1 and be subject to a rise of Id per 100 feet, with every additional! rise in the selling price of timber of 6d over 8s per 100. foot. ’ . ' /
