LEGACY FOR MAORI
“MILLIONAIRE” TO FRIENDS. MOSES SHOWS PRUDENCE. WELLINGTON, July 6. A Maori resident- of Awaroa, near Kawhia, wlio was in very needy cir-' cumstances ja fortnight ago, is now accounted a/ “millionaire?.’ by his Native friends As the result of the inheritance of a fortune running to over fouj figures. As related by the Thames “Star,” the story of Moses Powdrell, known locally as Moses Fish, is',that his grandfather was an Englishman, who years ago lived at Thames, married a three-quar-ter caste woman, and later returned to England, where he left a fortune of £24,000. ’ Moses got word that there was money in the estate, and interested a legal .firm in his chtim. He -has already received, preliminary pnstaljinents totalling over £IOOO, and- has acquired a'motor-car. Apparently, however, he has a sense of prudence,'for an amount of the inheritance has been banked on fixed deposit for the benefit of his little girl when she comes ftf .age.
