Caught robbing a shop ti.i in the city, a well-dressed maii about twentytwo years of age, boded iruin the shop, anti iiiter an excising chase do\\ n Queen Street, was caught, but lie Ip'bke away alid escaped.
, Airs Schofield, who keeps a small confectionary shop at the corner of Victoria Street and kitchener' Sb.’eet, opposite Albert Park, was sitting in a room just off tile shop, having afternoon tea when she looked 'through a glass door leading to the shop, and noticed that' the flap on the countei entrance and the doOr below it were displaced. Entering the shop she was Siifp.’ised to find a young man standing.in front of the till. •‘‘l was so astonished and flabbergasted for the moment, and was almost speechless,” said Airs Sciiofieid, shortly after the. incident, “we both Stood still for a second or two. Then the young limn ’moved out through the door of the counter,: closed it after him, and handed me 8s 6d, which he had taken from the till, remarking, ‘l’m sorry, lady.’ ” .He then bolted, followed by Afrs Schofield, who gave the alarm, which led to the man being caught, but he escaped.
