CLERK CHARGED WITH THEFT. DUNEDIN, July 1. In the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon, before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., William Franc s Crooke was charged that, heing a clerk einployed by the Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, he committed the theft of divers sums of money, amounting to, £1720 13s 4d, tli& property of the lodge. : Cliief-Detec,’tive Young asked for -a remand for a week, which was granted. Counsel for tlie defence, in applying for bail, said that restitution bad been made to the extent of £BOO. Accused was a married man with three children, and lie would plead guilty. Bailed was allowed, self in £2OO and one surety of £2OO.
