LEAGUE INQUIRY
CHINA AND JAPAN POSTPONEMENT OF REPORT. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) GENEVA, Ju ty 2. At the extraordinary session of the League of Nations’ Assembly convened this afternoon in order to derl with the Sino-Japaneso dispute, the Span sh ropa*:-sehtatire Picfessor Salvador de 'Madariaga, proposed on behalf of a largo number of League members, including Germany, th.t Turkey be invited to join the League. The President of the Assembly, M. Paul Hymans, stated that the Assembly was not able officially to take cognisance of thie question of Turkey’s admission, and that a special sitting will he convened in order to enable the Assembly to deal with the matter. The Assembly approved a resolution authorising the extension of the term for the presentation cf the report on the Sino-Japanese conflict. The resolution stresses the exceptional character of the measure, nece~s'tated by the circumstances, and takes cognisance of the consent given by the Chinese and Japanese Governments to the extension of the .term", provided for by Art/ A XII of the League Covenant. The Assembly, so the resolution continues, therefore decided to extend the term on condition that ro unnecessary delay shall be incurred and that the extension shall not be held to constitute a precedent. After receipt of the Lytton Commission’s report, the Assembly will, at the suggest’on of the Committee of Nineteen, decide on this length of time to he accorded for the extension.
Th-e resolution concluded by express ing.t-he hope that the Committee of Nineteen, will he in a position to examine the .Lvtton Commission’s report before November 1.
