FUTURE OF WHITE. RACE,

FEAR OF COLOUR CLASH

The international outlook not only as it might he influenced by the present extraordinary state of the world, , but as it might be 25, 50, or 100 years hence, wag the subject of some interesting comments by Dr Frederic* Graves, a missionary bishop of Shanghai, who has been revisiting England. The Bishop says that as the result of the economic, distress and unemployment young men are not marrying as they normally should/and the census reveals that there are a million tinore women than . men in England. "Blub that is only one angle of the tremendous problem ahead. The white women are not only outnumbering the men, but the married are avoiding the family, said the Bishop in an interview. And this state dt things, apart from shrinkage in the loss of a million of the best men in war, holds some very vital problems far the future not only of our nation, but of all the whit, races.

What is to happen if it gets worse! Are we eventually to go back to Biblical times for an answer, and devise, permit, adopt some matrimonial reform and latitude—without going quite the length of Solomon’s generous extension of things !

Any form of polygamy will probably always he repugnant to Western ideas, however, it may have been approved by the Scriptural patriarchs. Tife world was sparsely populated then’ and people were ordered to “be fruitful and multiply.” Will it he found advisable to order a more regulated and extended exercise of birth control, a modification of the laws relating to marriage and the union of the sexes, a subsidising of the family, or what?. THE MARRIAGE CODE. I am, quite aware that any suggestion dealing with the alteration of the code of marriage may shock some people. The Victorian spinster would at once slide to the hearthrug or decline into 'the arm of the nearest mutton-chop masculinity, and the air would reek with'the “vapours” am. smelling salts. ' •

But that genteel age is gone anti the “young person”' or to-day is no simpleton and knows her way about. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. I am not quite a. fool, and no. yet an angel, but there are ominous clouds (far off as yet, it is true) that some of us visualise and ponder. “Is it really as bad as that?” you may ask,' rather superciliously and I tell you, though it may not come in your day, it will come! For the whites are dying. Their races are all shrinking and may yet hare to fight tooth and nail for standing room against the greatly growing and oncoming hordes of the brown, yellow and black (Christian America • has practically wiped out the red long ago.) WHITES LESS THAN THIRD. The whites are Tees', than third o. the world's population and endanger their position by ceaseless rivalries and quarrels, and in the war the world had the pitiable spectacle of the highly civilised whites trying to exterminate their own races; while the coloured people looked on'"with brooding eyes that camouflaged by no riienns impassive minds. As for colonisation: true, there is not the urge lor adventure and exploration of a century ago. To-day the towns with their kinemas and social attractions outshine the wilds, and' the dole has put the last nail in emigration. If some of the money we have poured in vast sums into the waste sieves of desert lands could have been used to open up the great spaces that are. so potentially fertile, with water, electricity, traction, etc., in the Dominions and elsewhere there might he hope for us.'

NEW ORIENTAL CIVILISATION

Even if all the whites come into line and agree to see eye to eye witr. one another, can we ever hope the coloured people will adopt the same outlook and mentality? The varying psychology of the heterogeneous Orient forbids it for fighting and conquest are not only in the blood, but an integral part of the religions of some of the Eastern races,

Already the Indian, Egyptian, Arab, Chinaman, Negro, are in all the schools laboratories, wards and workshops of Europe and America. These are the pioneers, the vanguard of the new Oriental civilisation and go back U inijiaH the secrets of the Orient, and some day they may improve on our old wisdom and raise a more formidable host than anything we can oppose and take back from us the thing we once took from them.

Dearly beloved brethren (and si ill more numerous sis ren) y u who have begun to think complacantly ol the recent Armageddon as cataclysmic, even remote and trifling, have no idea of the terrific rumpus that may disturb this poor old earth if the real world war ever .ocmes, when all the races strive for the final victory and supremacy. Pray the good God it may not come in cr time! *

are constantly telling eg, we are rearing the wrong stock—breeding the unfit and coddling the hopeless, raising the C 3 at the expense of the Al. The last war took at lenst ten million men, all told, from the white ranks and eripnled more than twenty million more: The race.? are not only shrinking, as a body, but their men are shrinking in particular while the proportion of women grows. In fifty years time the whites will consist mainly of females and C 3 males, and when the modern Fed coloured people combine they will, simply 6 weep up and exteminate the men and carry away the women as slaves.
