COMEDIAN'S SpDDE’N DEATH;SYpNEY, June 25, Mr Phillips (“kitty”), the comedian/died suddenly while sitting jin l hid motor-car in Oastlercagh street. , He was sitting at the drive T’s wheel with his . wife (Muss Daisy Merritt), wihen he_complained of a . pain in the chest. Re was driven’ to the Sydney/ •Hospital, where a doctor found that he was. dead.
Mr Phillips, aged .49, had been on the stage almost continuously for 45 years. He was born at Brewarrina (N.S.W.), and ■jwas a nephew, of- the celebrated comedian, Joe’ To’.ano. j -W) ■ At five yeare he joined, the Lilian Tree Grand Opera 'Company at the bid Lyceum.r Then , followed 15 years, in America, with the- Sullivan-Considiue circuit, and tin ' England with* , Moss Stolls. •• . :■ ■■:
Fur the past 17 .years Mr - Phillips had been actively associated with the Fuller organisation in many stage shows,. and. was widely known for. his team work .with Roy Bene (“Mo”).
