By two goals to. one, Hokitika defeated Rover A. on Cues Square yesterday afternoon. Hie game war. played on a heavy ground, but the play in the first half was of a fast nature, the ball travelling up and down the field rapidly. The second half slowed down considerably the players feeling the effect of the heavy ground. The game generally was even but Hokitika had the advantage and the result ifi fl fair criterion of the play on the day. The game opened with Hokitika having to defend but the stage changed rapidly, both sides attacking, Rovers wings failing to get home from several openings. From a hot attack Hokitika opened the scoring, M. Sumner finding the net with a somewhat lucky, shot. Rovers then attacked and had t,t a little the better of the p'av till lmlf '/ time without any success at the crit* ical juncture, Hokitika defending we’li : tn the second half Rovers attacked and from a nice rush to the circle a scramble ensued from which Mrs . Rutland hit a nice goal, to even the score. The play went up and down the field and from a run by J. Hall, M. Sumner secured, and hit her second goal. Shortly after M. Sumner again found the net with a hard shot hut was penalised for offside p’ay. Rovers made a strong effort to equalise, but their opponents defence held ■ and time came r,oon after with Hokitika victorious by two goals to one. Outstanding players for Hokitika were P. Dowell, M. Sumner, J. Collett and J- Hall, while for Rovers R. and 0. Stapleton and R. Ward were noticeable. . Messrs Fleming and Stapleton were referees. KOKATAHI 9, ROVER B. 2. The match between Kokatahi and 'Rover B. was played on the former’s ground, and was won by the home team in an interesting match, by 9 goals to 2. A feature of the game was the forward display by both teams. The scorers for Kokatahi were .R. Little (5) and L. Monk (4), while F. Wells secured both goals for Rover B.
