NEW LYNN COUNCIL
RESIGNING ITS OFFICERS. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) AUCKLAND, June 28. The New Lynn Borough Council at a special meeting, resolved to ask for the resignations of ail its permanent officials, numbering four, to take effect from September 30th. This was considered the berfi means of dealing with the financial situation, the outcome of which could not be clearly foreseen.
Tlie Mayor, Mr George Lawson, said the Council was preparing for a situation that might arise in three months. It had experienced considerable difficulty in collecting rates in the last two years, and was much concerned about what would happen this year. The public services of the Borough might have to be considerably curtailed, if the rate collections were less than 10/st year. Moneys owing on behalf of properties mortgaged to the .State were a serious factor, and ultimately something would have to' he clone by the Government to he'-p local bodies thus affected? - The Council’s
officials were thoroughly efficient, and had done all that was pohsible to assist in the difficult time. The position was most unfortunate.
