WELLINGTON, June 23
Th e Mayor, 'Mr Hislop, to-day pointed out again the serious results which would follow for Wellington citizens should the Dominion’s exchange rate be increased, as is suggested, by an additional fifteen per cent. Either the city rates would have to be increased by 25 per cent., or e/se essential city services would have to suffer. Neither alternative, said 'the Mayor, could .be acceptable. The total effect of an exchange rise of fifteen per cent, upon the balance of Wellington’s in* teres), payments on Joans for this financial year would mean that another :Ji>>6,sDo, and ’next year a further £54,000, would have to be found.
