NEW YORK, June 19.
Charles Vahnie Higgins, a wealthy Brooklyn rum runner .racketeer and underworld character, died from four bullet wounds which he received in the early morning -when accompanied by his family, he .wag leaving the Knights of Columbus Hall,, in Brooklyn, after attending a children’s dance recital, wherein his. seven-year-old daughter Jean, was a mejtnber of the class.
Two automobile loads of gangsters, passing in. opposite, directions, opened fire. Over twenty shots' were fired, endangering the lives of deceased’# family, am) also many bystanders. Nono hut the. deceased were 1 injured. The late Charles Higgins was involved in so many illegal operations that the poljce were without any definite clues. However, they opine that the shooting was the aftermath of a series of inter-gang shootings for tha control of the liquor trade. •The latest prevjpus victim was Vincent Coll, who was murdered several months ago in' the telephone booth of- a Manhattan Pharmacy,
