“STATE THAT JACK WRECKED.!’ BRIGHT SPOT IN ELECTIONS'. SYDNEY, June 14. \ One of tlie bright spots in the NewSouth Wales election campaign was a speech in which the Minister of Health broke into verse on the subject of the shortcomings of Mr Lang. The poem was widely quoted: This Us the State that Jack wrecked. This is the country all harassed and worn, Where the bailiff’s in and the credit’s torn, And the taxpayer wishes he’d never been born, In this the State that Jack wrecked. This is the Jack with the great big jaw, Who kidded the electors he’d help the poor, And promised them jobs, and this he swore, “I’ll borrow a hundred million or more, To help the State that Jack wrecked.” This is the Jock, the Trades Hall joss, For New South Wales cares not a toss, Who orders the worker to hinder the ' boss, And balance his Budget with nothing but loss, In this, the State that Jack wrecked. This is Mark, of the Tin Hare larks, Who calls the New Guards “silly narks.” Now and then he babbles ia.nd barks That Jack is better than Wentworth or Parkes, Though they built the State that Jack wrecked. This is “Goode,” of transport fame, Who reported to Jack—it was a darn eli a me To be fired bv Cleary—Oh, was lie to blame? And boss of the Transport Board became In this, the State that Jack wrecked. This is the taxpayer, shabby and shorn, Who wishes again he’d never been born, Poor, harassed chap, he’s all forlorn, His overcoat’s gone and life watch is i n pawn, For lie lives in the State that .Jack wrecked. .This is the Bridge, and the point is moot, * Was it opened by Jack, or was it de Groot P Still it gave Jack’s cobbers a chance to hoot, And shout to the coppers to put in the boot, : ■ " . And thus serve the State that Jack .wrecked.
