STRIKES WH AKA TANK TOWNSHIP. (By Telegraph—rer Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 16. .A. cyclone of terrific force struck Whakatane to-night doing much damage in the central' portion of the town,

The roof, of iron and timber, was torn oft' the Power .Board building, and hurled in all directions, one portion crashing on to the board ing-house next door. A boarder in an upstairs bedroom had a narrow escape. Several houses occupied -by Maori** were unroofed, and several chains of power lines were demolished, Whakatahe being plunged into darkness. Considerable damage was done in other parts of the town. Fortunately nobody was injured.
