Painful injuries, resulting iu the loss of an eye, were suffered by Mr H. H. Tucker, dentist, of Napier, recently, when a screwdriver slipped off a screw and penetrated his left eye. Mr Tockei was attending to his motor-ear at the time and was bending over a screw. The screwdriver was pointing upwards, and while using pressure on the tool it slipped off the groove on the sciew and was jerked upwards, penetrating the eye. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital, where he underwent an ope.ration } but the eye could not be saved.

The feature of the Metropolitan market at Addington, on Wednesday was the cheapness of the heef which came under the hammer. The yarding was a little .smaller than those forward during the past few weeks, hut it was still an over supply. Th© quality was a little better) but the sale was dragging throughout, and only in a few instances, did beef make over. £1 a hundred pounds. The fat sheep entry was a large one, and prices wer e -easier in consequence of the oversupply. The fat lamb entry was a large, one, and prices were easier in consequence of the over-supply. The fat lamb yarding was of poor quality with the exception of a few pens, but throughout the sale there, was a steady demand at late rates. Veal was in slighly better demand where there was quality, hut other 'sorts were cheaper. Fat pigs, met a- good demand at advanced rates.
