DERBY WEEK
SPORTING IN’ ENGLAND

LONDON, May 31. To-day marks the opening of a crowded week of sports and social activities, including the Epsom meeting, with the race for the Derby on Wednesday, and the celebrations of the King’s birthday at the end of the week, with the trooping of colours on the Horse Guards parade bn Saturday. Television has reached the cinema. A six feet screen in London showed a. variety performance, . which was being enacted two miles distant. Every movement and word were undistorted.
Weather permitting, the Derby race will be -shown on -an eighteen , feet screen. Tests to-day showed crowds of horses on the Epsom course,. This will be the first time the race has been televised.
