PLANE ACCIDENT
WHEN REFUELLING IN AIR

SEATTLE, May 30.
Nat C. Browne’s Fokker monoplane broke a wing here to-day when a hose from tlie refuelling plane touched it, as .it was attempting to fuel for the Tokio flight. Th© plane fell into ERiott Bay. Both Browne and the 'refuelling aide, ,-Frank Brooks, landed in. the water, but were rescued, Browne injuring his arm. If the air fuelling had been successful, Brooks was to have alighted, leaving Browne alone for the flight. BroWhe is suffering from a dislocated shoulder and exposure. Brooks, who had made 2,469 parachute jumps, was uninjured. Brooks said that tlie refuelling hose hit a stabiliser wire, which caused Browne to dive. As the plane headed down, the wing collapsed, and both men parachuted out. A new type of life preserver worn l>y Browne on liis shoulder saved his life
