FAMOUS WAR ACE
FRENCHMAN’S VISIT TO N.Z

WELLINGTON, May 30.
A member of the French Air Force, and a distinguished war “ace,” Captain J. R. Roques, who is on a world tour, arrived at Wellington to-day by the Monowai from San Francisco. He is on leave. He will spend a week or two in the Dominion before sailing for Sydney, en route for Java, Singapore and French Indo-China. /
'Captain Roques was a Lieutenant in the French Flying Corps during the war, and he saw service from 1915 until the termination of hostilities. . He is a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, the highest decoration that can be bestowed on anyone in France, and is the holder of the Military Medal, the Croix De Guerre, and one Belgian decoratoin. During the war he brought down six German aeroplanes. Several times came into conflict with the famoitt German “Ace,” Baron Richthofen, and his Squadron.
