PRAISE FOR DAIRY PRODUCE

RESULTS AT WAIKATO

NEW PLYMOUTH, May 30

’'lhe dairy exhibits at the Waikato winter show, which constitute a record, attained a high standard in the butter section. The grand banner championship was won by the N. Z. Co-op. factory at Ngatea. The provincial championship points prizes resulted; —N.Z. Auckland Co-op-, Ngatea 1; Taranaki, Mangorei Co-op 1; Wellington and Hawkes Bay, Itangitikej .Co-op. 1. | ’ South Island;—Golden Dawn Co-op. ' l'.j, first assistant’s points prize, Kanini Corop, (O. W. Stone) 1.

Cheese section ;—Grand Championship Banner, Lowgarth dairy. Pro vinciaF championships points prize* resulted :—'North Island, Auckland, Cambridge ; Co-op. 1; Taranaki, Lowgarth Co-op. 1; Wellington and Hawkes Bay, Pahiatua Co-op. 1. South Island, Barry’s Bay Co-op. 1. First assistant’s prize, -Pahiatua Co-op. (T. Pinfold). Champion of;. Champions, Kiritaki Coop. 1, Patiatua Co-op. 2. Commenting- 'on the butter, Mr W. Dempster, Chief Government grader, stated that :the_.general! quality of the exhibits was ..y.ery good, and, considering thei time the butter had been in (Store, 'the' flavours had hold up well. One noticeable feature was the lack of district flavours, a perusal of the .prize list • .indicating that the prizes were, distributed over the Dominion from theffar north to Dunedin in the south. The Body and texture of the butter was very, pleasing and showed the greatest uniformity. Managers were to be congratulated on the regular quality of their exhibits. Mr C. Stevenson, the principal cheese judge- said that the majority of the higher scoring exhibits in the cheese classes were of a very creditable qual-

ity the .flavour especially being very good generally. Several showed a : smooth type of body that is required. -Many of the entries would have scored higher had the body been less harsh and dry. These gave indications of more salt than curd required, with the exception of a few, the finit'h generally was ...very good, the cheese being neat a.nd . clean.
