THEFT OF £lO6 PAY ROLL

• AUCKLAND, May .28. - The police l are for the men who hold up a city firm’s accountant, Mr Dias, in the street yesterday, and robbed him of a payroll of £lO6. Although a description of the robbers was broadcast, there is no trace of them.

The motor car used by th e robbers to escape after assaulting Mr Dias was found abandoned' in Richmond Road, Grey Lynn, late yesterday afternoon. A description of the vehicie had. been broadcast and it was recognised by a passer-by who informed the police. The movements of the car from the tim e it disappeared until it was found in Richmond Road are not known.' ' The roadster had been stolen from Rutland Street' on Thursday evening. The owner, Mr Henry Ingham, of West Coast Road, Glen Eden, parked the ckr in .'Rutland Street. fiear Queen Street shortly before eight,-,o’clock and it had gone when he returned a little after 11 o'clock. There was no attendant At the place where he parked the car. The petrol" tank contained two gniUons, enough for thirty-six miles'running. It is understood that the police have one euspect in custody on another charge,

The victim of the assault, Mr R. Dias, although bruised-"-and shaken, went to the bank later yesterday afternoon with an escort and. drew sufficient money to make up the. wages. The hold-up has' directed public attention to the need for mor e caution by all carrying large .. sums of money in the -streets.

TWO ARRESTS EFFECTED

AUCKLAND, May 29

Following the hold-up in the city on Friday, the police -have made an. exhaustive search for three robbers, which is stiil proceeding. . • ; . Two men alleged to have been concerned have been arrested.
