RADIUM CONTROL
DEPOSITS FOUND IN CANADA

The interest of the mining world has been turned to the metalliferous area recenl'.'y discovered in the Great Heal Lake district in Canada, close to the Arctic C'rrlo, where ‘deposits of rad imn-henriug pitchblende were found. These deposits are of great importance, aid Canadian 'Senator advocated n Parliament the creation of a Government monopoly in radium, lie compared the Great Hear f" 1 deposits with the Belgian in Africa, and said that radium could he mo ain from the lipw Canadian field at a cu-l of one-seventh of the Belg'an n*'
price. The Belgian Tins'* produces 95 per cent, of the world's radium supply ii.ikl fixes the price and the output accordingly. In view of the important part played by radium in medical treatment to-day the prospect of larger supplies at a reduced price is of more than passing interest.
