AMATEUR CHAMPION SHIP

LONDON, May 25,

Although the New Yorker, Leonard Martin, was defeated in the second round of the Amateur Golf Cnampiouship another American, David Mai tin, aged 23 years, from California, who is not related to Leonard Martin, piovid©d yesterday’s surprise by defeating L. G. Crawley, the holder of the English Championship.

LONDON’S OLYMPIA TOURNAMENT.

RUGBY, May 25.

The “dress rehearsal’” to-day of the annual royal tournament at Olympia was, as usual, attended by a huge and appreciative audience. This years performance justifies th© reputation of the tournament as one of the most attractive spectacular items in the London season.

The amateur Golf Championship is furnishing surprises daily. Crawley Rex Hartley, W. Hartley, T. Torrance, all nominees for the British Walker Cup team, were defeated hy lesser known players. The last American left in, David Martin, was defeated, two up, to-day hy a young Cheshire player, Shaw.
