SMALL REBATE
FOR RURAL PARTY LINES

WELLINGTON, May 28. In announcing the reductions in the postage rates, the Hon. A. Hamilton, Postmaster-General, adds that it might he considered that some reduction should, ho made in telephone rentals. He had given this matte" his careful attention, hut was unable to make any substantial reduction in this connection)
He, however, had decided to make a small concession to certain rural party line subscribers, as many country -subscribers, owing- to their isolation, were paying a rental beyond their capacity to meet.
He had decided, for the present financial year, to fix a rate for these subscribers, at half the. existing rate, with a minimum of ten pounds. Tins con-, cession would amount approximately to £SOOO per annum. So far as the telephone service, generally, was concerned, he would like to remind subscribers that New Zealand enjoyed the cheapest service in the Ehghslnspenking world,
