VOLCANIC ASH
IN DOMINION ATMOSPHERE
WAFTED FROM SOUTH AMERICA
(By Telegraph —Per Press Association)
WELLINGTON, May 24
During the past couple of weeks, people have been remarking upon a brilliant glow that is oiten attended upon the sunsets. They also have remarked upon haloes seen round the sun and the moon.
Suc'i reports have come from a number of localities. Moveroveir, there lias been a noticeable drop in temperatures. <? one set of circumstances, according to Dr. Kidson, Director of Meteorological Services, will account for all of these phenomena. That is that the air circulating high over New Zealand has become impregnated with light volcanic ash, which ash has been carried by the prevailing westerly air currents from the recent volcanic eruptions in Chile. . It is too late in the season for these effects to come from bush fire smoke from Australia, besides which they have had rain ovo- there lately.
