PARIS, May 24
M. Herriot and M. Tardie-u will meet this afternoon in the presence of President Lebrun.
Many are hope-fill that the meeting may result in an exchange ot views which may'make possible the co-opera-tion of M. Tarcti-eii and the present members of the Cabinet, with M. Heiriot, and e-ven the establishment of a National Government, which >s being now widely discussed. It is -admitted .that France is faced with a -serious position at home and. abroad. On the one hand, the Socialists are demanding a large reduction in military expenditure, while M. Heiriot .states that he has no intention of risking France’s security. The keynotes of M v Herriot s pol-cy is an insistence on the rights possessed by France by .virtue ot the existing treaties.
There is a general belief, however, that France is not vet.ready tor a National Government, and that she- will be represented at the Lausanne Conference by the Radicals, neitnei the Socialists nor M. TaitdieuV Moderates being included.
