In its test 1 lights th,. plane has diselo od remarkable speed; and climbing qualities. It is now being fitted with special blind flying instruments, and also with extra tanks for petrol, so tiiat the plane will have a -range, of fifteen hundred miles.

Mrs Amelia Earhart Putnam was accorded an enthusiastic reception when she attended a lunchediv which tils Institute of Journalists arranged in honour of the new American Ambassador, Mr Andrew Mellon. The airwoman sat between Sir John Simon .(Foreign Secretary) and Mr Melton, and ,sho talked with animation of her ■experiences on the flight.

AUSTRALIAN LECTURER DIES
NEW YORK. May 23
A me-'sage from Hyalin's (Massachusetts) states that Tom SkeyhdV Australian lecturer, died as the result of injuries received in a forced landing by an aeroplane, on Saturday night. Flying with his secretary, who was also his pilot, and another friend, iSkey.hi 11 was taking a pleasure ride near his summer home, when ;, it is believed that the plane developed engine trouble, and dropped .200 feet. The pilot and the. friend were,-serious-ly injured. ■Skeyhill lhas used the aeroplan© to travel about the country on lecture tours. His widow and baby were in New (York at the time.

The machines .have been purchased by the Egyptian.; Government.. for... • patrol work, Three , are being flown by Egyptian officers, and the others by members of the Royal Air Force-.
