BUSHMAN LOSES LEG

AUCKLAND, May 23
Crushed, beneath a fallen tree oil Tuesday, Mi- Peter McGuire, aged 60, a bushfimipfengaged at A.yahiwi, between Matoaku, aifd Rotqfiftp. received severe ;.injnri.osj which,, fijjjgr necessitated the amputation of'"his right leg. Mr McGuire was felling a tree and was unable to get clear itulime. Jiefore jit Crashed on to him. He was wedged beneath the heavy trunk and his comrades had difficulty.' in extricating him. In great pain he was taken a considerable distance to the Arahiwi siding, to which the Rotorua ambulance was summoned. When half-way hack to Rotorua Dr. Wallace met the ambulance and gave the injured man treatment. Mr McGuire was admitted to the King George V. Hospital shortly after 9 p.m., and an amputation was performed later in the night.
YOUNG MAN SHOT,
LEVIN, May 24
As the result of a shooting accident yesterday, John Buick Murray, 21 yearsvof age, the younger son of .Mrs Hammond Murray, died in the hoepitall jnist- night. - Deceased and his brother were -returning homo after cutting a track thrbfigh the bush to Lake Papaitongn, the: 'brother carrying the tools and a ■lpiided' shotgun. By some means, the gun was discharged, and deceased, who was 'walking in front received the full charge in his back.
HEAD BLOWN OFF BY GELIGNITE
CARTERTON. May 23
John K. Hargreaves, aged eighteen, a farm labourer employed by Richard Foss.; of South F'eafcher.s'ton, was found -dead in a whare this morning in circumstances pointing to .suicide. Presumably lie had placed a plug of gelignite in his mouth. His head was blown completely off.
Hound dead on road
TEMUKA, May 23
At 7 o’clock last evening, the dead body.of a man named Jeremiah Hanifin,' ii,; t widower, aged forty-nine, residing fir Denmark Street, Temuka, was found'jlving beside hi.s bieyclo on the Main; South Road at Sendown. The dfepoyO’y was made by a passing mflJoWist. v' who informed tip. Temuka police/ and the body was conveyed to the myrgue at Temuka. Hamlin had been an inmate at the TiniarU Hospital. There were no signs of his having been run into by anyone, and it is surmised that he collapsed’on the road.
