HEAVY FINES
FOR OPIUM SMOKERS,
INGENIOUS DEVICE DISCLOSED

DUNEDIN, May 23
Among 'the complete paraphernalia for opium smoking produced in the Police Court wer e two ingeniously constructed fruit tins bearing labels .“egg fruit.” Both tins had false bottoms, in which the police suggest that opium was brought to New Zealand. As a result of a raid on Saturday, Ah Poy and Young Sew were charged with smoking prepared opium. Sew was .also charged with being the occupier of premises in which he permitted smoking. Poy was fined £2O and Sew £SO for permitting .smoking and £l2 10s for smoking. •
