Menticultural Society.—The inaugmeeting of the Menticultural Society was held in the Wesleyan Sunday School last evening. The following of-, fiers were eleced :■ —Presideaitf Rev. Ellis; vice-presidents, Messrs G. Perry, W. Shannon, Rickaids and T. Robinson; secretary, -Mr Taylor.Messrs Lampe, Hills, and the secret- 1 ' ary were instructed to draw up a syl[la bus.
uTairying.—A large attendance "of isellers ; oif l lnter-Wanganui and Evan’s Creek-vomet at the Inter-Wanganui school last evening to discuss the advantages of a cheese factory. Mr G. 3. Robertson was voted to the chair.
I’lie following committee was appointed to go further into the matter Messrs Robertson, C. Davey, F. Haddock, C. Ferguson, J. Thompson, - J. McKay and S. Wall (secretary).
County Works.—Messrs H. L. Michel, S. G. Ferguson, T. J. McGuigait, arid T. V. Byrne (County Chairman) and the works Committee of the Council paid a visit of inspection to the Eokatahi bridge ghd protection works yesterday, in ordels to ascertain what further works Were etjuired; - -
Catholic Club.—The Catholic Club’9 euchre party in St. Mary’s Schoolroom last evening, was very successful, The prizes were won by Mr W. Hall, and Mrs Hall, and the booby prizes by Miss | Dooling, and Mr -A. - Heinz. Musical items were later contributed by Misses A. Daly, M. and V. Sullivan. The refreshment arrangements were in the hands of ’Mesdames Toomey and Vincent and Misses M. Burke, C. Shine, J. Harvey and A. Hayes. Football.—A match between Arahura and the local junior team will lie payed on Cass Square on Saturday. The Arahura team will be as follows:

Kotatahi.—lt is to be hoped that the Government will put; on a grant for the purpose of. a road to the thermal , springs, which;“are- attracting atteri- • tion in the, district. If, a road were put through residents in Hokitika could ride right through and. be back the same day. There are also splendid views to be obtained on the way to the springs, which would induce those with av camera to undertake a trip, besides being an attraction for tourists. Valedictory.:—Mr. arid. Ml's.; \TilUaltl, ; ;. Skilton, of Koiterangi, who are shortly leaving the district were farewelled by the settlers in the schoolhouse off Wednesday evening. Mr H. Notmftrt presented them with n travelling rug and silver biscuit barrel, expregsiug regret on behalf of all;at their forth* coming departure. The evening was spent in dancing, music being provided by Miss Winnie- Meharry and Mr D. Graham, Mr G. Meharry being M.C.
Hokitika Fire District.; —Little interest was taken in . the polling yesterday to decide ■ whether Hokitika should be declared a fire district, and only 160 votes were cast, 147 being for the proposal and 13 against. Mr A. A. Andrewes was Returning Officer and Mr R. McMillan Poll Clerk. The Mayor congratulated the ratepayers upon the decision arrived at, and said that if the law had been in force during the past six years it would have meant a saving of £IOOO for them. As it was the saving to the town would be worth fully £2OO a year.
All Saints’ Church.—A meeting of parishioners of All Saints’ Church was held last evening in the schoolroom, the Rev. H. S. Leach presiding. It was reported that the Diocesan Property, Trustees had donated a sum of £250; toward building a. new vicarage in Hokitika and had also agreed to a loan of £250 for the same purpose.
