The town clerk, Mr .1. R. Hurdle, reported to to-night’s meeting ol the Palmerston North City "Council that the bonds of the vn-rfouk'-departments had agreed to accept a reduction of 121 per cent, in their 'salaries. The offer, which was accepted, affects the town clerk, engineer, abattoir manager, electrical engineer, and city curator.
Tlio question of reducing salaries bf employees of the council was discussed, and was referred to the works committee for further consideration. A recommendation was before the council from this committee that the office stall' should not, he reduced, but that l|, o s alaries of members of the outside
staff should be reduced by five per cent. A lengthy discussion ensued on the question.
